The Ostrich and The Maple Tree

The lacquered voice of the Maple Tree runs thick downs its heavy trunk.

Some say it tells stories of peace and time

But as she stands gazing up at its immense branches reaching towards the heaves

she cries

The Tree knows her misery

The Tree knows her misery

"I am an ostrich loving a swan"

says she

The Tree knows her misery.

bowed to the sun

Aged with passing years

Flightless just as she

They share their misery.

Tears of amber and salt

mix as she holds herself to the tree

clinging to life

aching for wings

"Yes", the tree sighs

I know know your misery"

"Not alone"

"Not alone"

"I too have no wings"
